Is there any usual problems with the switch or relaese mechanism? Just wondering if it could be a simple fix?

B5 Estate - Fuel Filler flap switch doesn't work, any ideas?
Bought the estate a few weeks ago on the proviso the seller would contact me about sorting this out, he's got a mate thats an auto electrician, but nearly four weeks later and I'm still having to pull the flap open from the inside of the boot side.
Is there any usual problems with the switch or relaese mechanism? Just wondering if it could be a simple fix?
