Headlight reflectors failed MoT

So the Grim Reaper in the guise of the MoT Tester has failed my ‘94 B4 Passat estate again because the headlight reflectors are not bright enough.
Fudged it last year with 130% brighter bulbs.
I have to say the visibility on unlit roads on dipped headlights is not very good.
I have seen a company called Dual Metallising who will recoat the reflectors. Has anybody tried taking the headlights apart so the reflectors can be removed?
