'94 Passat CL front passenger door stuck shut

Hi,
the front passenger door on the Passat Estate is stuck shut. The central locking makes all the right noises and works on the remaining doors. My problem is - how to open a stuck door so that I can see how to fix the...stuck door?? (without ripping door cards for access etc).
This Passat is my mums and was bought new and if will fail its MOT in a month (I assume) if I can't fix which could lead it being 'written off'.
Any advice please? thanks.
