Rear shock absorber replacement

I need to replace the rear shock absorber on my 1991 Passat Estate. I have 2 different Haynes Manuals but neither are very good at explaining how to remove the plastic trim to expose the strut top mount. One manual even had pictures to show fixings etc but mine were different ! Has any one an idea how to remove the trims, as I can't see how to get the one above the seat belt reel off, nor the large side trim
