I need a friendly MOTer in the East Midlands

My passat is due an MOT in the about 5 weeks.

I asked the mechanic I normally use if it would fail an MOT without a cat in and he said if they check the exhaust system and its not there they can fail it on a section of exhaust missing or something similar?

If this is true I need to find somewhere in the area that will pass it without a cat as I know there are lots of places that will!

The car is a 1996 1.9 tdi B4 passat

Any help would be great!
