B4 2.0 problem

My 1996 B4 wagon has started using more fuel when I drive sensibly then when I floor it, the engine has also started sweating (ALOT! of) oil over the past few days.

I know the breather pipe (?) is the problem (the pipe that goes from the top of the engine to the lower part of the block) but will that also make the car burn more fuel than normal?

Any help will be greatful.
