B3 intermittent fuel/temp gauge

Post by oylyb3wagen »

Hi all,

Just passin' on something I have come across whilst pulling me hair out tryin to get to the bottom of my fuel and temp gauge intermittently working. :???:

Anyhoo, if you have an intermittently working fuel and temp gauge (my oil and coolant LED's were intermittent too!) - try this :-
Remove your dash clockset
Remove the plastic clear front
Carefully remove the clock (or rev counter)
You should see a small transistor (it is the voltage stabiliser) about 1cm square - with three soldered legs attached to the main circuit board up in the top right corner of the clockset. It is screwed to a metal heatsink too.

If you inspect the soldered connections carefully - I fould that two of the legs had hairline cracks where they joined to the main circuit board - causing the intermittent operation

Just run a soldering iron (or get someone who has one! :D ) over the legs and resolder the joints

My gauges work perfectly now :-P

This may not be the case for some of you but you never know - dont go replacing that clockset just yet!

Sorry no pics but if I can, I will try to get some posted

Keep them B3's rollin' :-bd
