update time (nearly 4 years on....)


still own the Asshat, still searching for a climatronic donor (have broken a few B4tid's but all had 'normal AC @-) )

future work?

replace drivere=s sill & finish wiring the heated leather seats (used mk3 golf seats, B4 heating loom & managed to find a B3 combined seat switch as the B4 one was typically diferent & wont fit the B3's dashboard :ymapplause: )

more for the future :-bd

update time...

still got G788, also have a B4tdi estate in red (borderline parts car or re-comission?) and as of Friday - a clean red 1993 B3 estate with 6 months mot powered by a 1.8 petrol engine with the economy 'single-point' injection setup....

so, now I have 3....... :0

and no room.... :hyst

soooooo....

the '93 B3's 1.8i petrol engine is getting replaced, can't handle ~32mpg when I can tdi for 60+mpg @-)

and I want Cruisecontrol :-bd

also, think the head gasket's gone so buggerit :hyst

the '93 is now not petrol powered, I've started stripping the '95 B4 tdi wagon for the donor parts so its repeat of a previous B3 tdi conversion B-)

Most of those vag single-point injection engines are thirsty on fuel. Definitely better swap for diesel, especially if you have a full setup already available.

I have a real soft spot for b3s always wanted a tdi one, can't find a good shell nowadays!

so, March 10'th will be 5 years of B3 ownership (had a few B4's previously - was trying to NOT say 'Before' :hyst )

means 6 years with the mk2 golf tdi :-bd

and 9 years with a t4 :0

anyway, full speed ahead, probably one of the hardest conversions I've been involved with as I'm trying to copy the factory placement of parts :shock: makes a change to fitting things where they should be %-(

it was okey, 33mpg locally but upto 40mpg on motorway runs @ 70+mph, the reason for removal was economics & the engine had coolant issues or maybe headgasket? (why I ended up with it)

they are around, including my pair (& whats left of the B4) theres another 2L Black B3 wagon about 1 mile away from here & another greenish B3 wagon thats having a 1.8 / 20vt conversion in Swansea (~15 miles away)
if you want one then now is the time to look as they are getting rarer and the 'scene-monkeys' are realising that B3 & B4's are great cars and that the wagon is huge inside - far more use than a lopo or other tinbox x_x

I dislike the use of 'retro' more a useable modern classic? the oldest are ~31 years old and youngest are ~25 (the one I'm converting is 1993 registered so must be one of the last UK registered B3's :???: whereas my 'other' is 1989 so within the first year of production & there are lots of diferences between the pair & B4 parts can be also diferent @-) )

ha. most of that era vag production was based around the 'parts-bin' so within reason everything can swap without major modification B-) when you mix earlier (pre '88 / '89) and later (mk4 golf era so '94 ish?) then wiring becomes interesting but not impossible. same with mecanicals as the engines are based around the mk1 golf / B1 Passat & audi 80 of the late 60's / early 70's & this sorta applies to mid 90's and later (early 1.8 / 20vt engines used cylinderblocks based on the 1.8 / 16v engine that was based on the 1.8 / 8v and that on the 1.6 / 8v etc. the 1.5 / 1.6 / 1.7 / 1.9 D/TD/TDI was also based on the golf 1.6 / 8v petrol :-?

shame vw went to the audi inline setup for the Passat, a step backwards in my opinion especially that rediculous suspension ~x( suppose it was good when new x_x

5 years on, still have the B3tdi, well, have the thread-starting '89 tdi & a '93tdi

I've also owned a 2 other B3's as well as stripping 6 B4's :0 but that dates back ~7 years :oops:
