Idiotic design

If I want to change the rear shocks on my Hillman Imp there's two bolts at the top and one at the bottom - just the same as my B4 estate. Except, before I can do the top two on the Passat I have to dismantle the load cover/rails and all the interior trim in the boot plus half that around the back seat. What sort of numpty designs something like that? Progress? No f'ing way is it progress.
