Well as you know a LOT of people are a bit tired of Lexus type rear lights for our passats and thats all apart from the led ones that seem to be available unlike other vag???...

SO Im looking at seeing if we can get something off the ground for new lights/designs for PASSAT B5 /B5.5


If you into photoshop/design etc then please feel free to add your comments/pics or ideas here and we can then see if ULTRA AUTO will be able to put our ideas into reality !!

i've been thinkin of gettin a set made up but wouldn't know where to start to actually make em??

i like the rollsroyce drophead rears n think they would suit hte b5.5. with the curved shape of the lense. i'll have to try n draw what i mean ...watch this space, lol!!

Yeah all ideas welcome this is OUR chance to get some new lights for the passat !

why does nobody do a simple, decent ,smoked o.e look rear lens for a b5 saloon? i've seen loads of variations for the estate (including loads of hella items!!all smoked, half smoked half red, all clear - not lexus)
huge market there - i reckon if they looked good enough i'd get a set, or U.S spec .:R32 style rear lenses, smoked with a red strip or centre
the problem with the lexus lights etc are, that no matter how well they are designed, or indeed fabricated - they will always look gash...end of
i can honestly say, i think people are more for oem+ style modding on this site, and the vw 'family' as a whole aren't about horrendous in your face x-treme modding, with darth vader bonnets, scoops, huge kits like the 'lax power kru'

if you could nail a decent range, or even one set of quality o.e look lights, i'm sure that you'd sell loads.not only on this site, but distributed through big shops and mail order places from mags (e.g awesome, venom etc)
and then obviously ebay - to the entire world

and the maserati idea could work on a b5.5 - different!!!!

what 4a4 said the be estate has the half smoked and half red lense which looks good and i have been looking for a saloon version but there doesn't seem to be one

also the all clear and all smoked rear lenses would be popular (which would be a problem lol)

what about making the b5.5 rear lenses for the b5 saloon like the estates aswell

thats exactly what i was thinkin but do it in the led's the new audi's use!! if u look at a roller drophead they would be similar but more of a cheapy lookin led

So two strips of LEDs The outer edge being the full brake light, with the inner being the reversing light, indicator and fog light.

A panel that can be colour coded or come supplied in carbon look material, to fill in the now void area that was previously the majority of the light fixture?

Or Skyline style round lights?

Why does no1 do the crystal lights for the Passats?

Crystal lights look clean on bmw's, mk3 golfs etc.

By crystal i mean the clear-coloured ones, not the rubbish white ones like what you see on corsa etc.

I mean this style of light, if you get what I mean;

But maybe with the white part of the b5.5 lights smoked.

I like the maserati style idea crystal ones sound nice as well - for b5 there some led ones on german ebay - I had the red ones and I was very happy with them - so if we could have something similar for b5.5 would be great - I try to photochop something

I thought this was called ideas for new types of lights? All these seem to be old Ideas? I like the idea of the Maserratti style outline for the night lights but then try n fill the inside with the other parts. I'm poo at art so I'll try n draw up what I mean on paint but they won't be pretty At least it'll give an idea of what I mean tho.

they are new idaes for different models

most of the lights people talk about are just for other models, cars etc

for example theres a few lights which the estates have but there not available for the saloon

yeah all the above have been done by modders we want something manufactured to oem spec

keep them coming I will get the tech chaps from Ultra to come and take a look

the new tt rears look good with the two square sorta shapes in them when theyre on, or the b6 rears where the circles are red but light up amber for the indicators, im guessing if they can be made the there can be variations on lenses smoked clear or all red?

K, done a very crude pic of what I was thinking. My artwork is dire at best so I'll add a description.

In the mazza fashion, the lights that come on with the side / dipped is an LED strip that follows the contour of the light from the inner top corner out n down the outside to the bottom outer corner. This can be a wide or narrow as deemed best for looks / effectiveness. Then have the indicator in the bottom outer corner in a trianglem the reverse on the botton inner corner. Then the fogs can be the infill of the 2 triangles up to the halfway of the light. Then the upper unfilled part can be the brake light?

Obviously that is a very rough idea but its a start to either ignore or improve upon

The lense could be clear crystal with coloured bulbs or coloured lense maybe?

50/50 Crystal and red like ive had on both my golfs. I would have a set for my B5 immediately!

b5 estates have the half red half clear one (not crystal ones)

Yeah I think its more the salloons that lack the choices ......im trying to get them to do some choice for salloons
