Car: 1986 Passat 2.2 GT - 136ps of mayhem!
Problem: Misfire when cold - poor restarting
Our Passat doesn't get a huge amount of use - and is primarily used as the workhorse at our mountain house. Over recent months the cold performance has got worse.
1) Misfire - around 1600rpm - any gear. Only seems to happen when the choke is open - IE when cold
2) Restarting - becoming harder and harder to restart when driven for only 1 mile. It will eventually.
The overheating problem seems now to be only the way the car is - and has been confirmed by 2 garages. But the cold starting and running is an issue. Once the engine is warm it restarts without issue - and runs incredibly smoothly - and revs very very nicely.
Rough running when cold
