Caliper help Passat 32 - b1-mk1

[1970chassis]

I had an accident and the caliper broke where the flexi pipe attaches to the caliper body

The questions are -
1 - What type of caliper is it an ATE or Girling ?
2 - Can it be replaced with a 32b/mk2 caliper or a golf one - without requiring new bigger rims ?
3 - has anyone got one ?
4 - Why did this happen on the best summer weekend in years ?
