Water leak

Hi I have a 2001 passat tdi estate, and there is water wetting the passenger side rear footwell whenever it rains. I have only owned the car for a couple of weeks so understanding is minimal. The water doesn't seem to be comming in through the door seals. Thought that maybe the drain from the windshield was blocked somewhere and overflowing into the car. Has anyone any thoughts.
