Well, I ve been into the dubs since I was 13 when I started leading the german dub mags.

After I passed my driving test my parents promised me they would buy me a car after I sat my A-levels. Straight away I knew it had to be a dub. So I wanted to get mk2 gti or a corrado, but my dad had different plans. He said it had to be a safe car!
So he bought me this 02 Passat 2.0l saloon in inky blue with 88k miles on the clock, full service history and only one owner. The guy we bought the car off always had it serviced at vw dealer, since his brother was the owner of the dealership.
So when I got the car it looked like this

Image
Image

So I gave it a good clean and drove around in it.
I saved up for a month to buy some nice alloys, I knew they had to Mercedes rims and then some AMG reps came up locally, I had to have them. Put them on straight away and it looked like this

Image
Image

I was happy with it looking like this for a bit.
But I really wanted it to be lower, so I ordered some coilovers from germany, but they took ages to arrive.
So in the meantime I found these alloys and had to have them, again!

Image
Image
Image
Only problem was that they needed a refurb.
So I took them to a place in Watford to get them refurbed, but powdercoated in satin black as I wanted something different. I dropped them off there before Christmas and then collected them in January.

In the meantime my coilovers arrived from germany (finally) so went to see my mates dad and was begging him to let me use the ramp in his garage on a Sunday when it was quite.
Eventually he gave in and I put my coilies on. Also put the badgeless grill on which I got off ebay

Image
Image

So now the ride height was sorted

Image
Image

So I went and picked the wheels up and they looked stunning. Had to put them on straight away:

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

So I went to No Rice at fleet and there I met a cool guy called Pete(guess who??). He told me about ukpassats and I joined straight away.

Image
Image

Sometime before that I also tinted my rear lights with window tint foil

Image

But I didn’t really like it so it came off again.
Then for some stupid reason I thought it would be a good Idea to trackday the car and so I bought a bucket seat and harnesses to go in.
Image
But I quickly scrapped that idea and kept the bucket and harness for my mk1 gti.

Then I bought some roofbars for no particular reason

Image

And I sprayed the rear badge black like this

Image
Image
Image

The next thing was that I had to replace the coils as one went after the other
Image

My friend got some rollin shots on the way home from UD

Image
Image

So I drove it around like this for a bit.

Image

Then both of the front electric windows broke and I had to replace the with new regulators which was 70quid each.

I was at my gf’s house over the summer and the car looked like this
Image
But one of the front brake pads rusted onto the carrier and so the disk looked like this:
Image

So I order some Zimmerman drilled discs and some green stuff pads and replaced the standard ones.

Image

Next thing was the radiator which was cracked where the plastic goes onto the metal.
So I got a replacement one of ebay, put it on and the car was nearly ready for the ukpassats show. Wanted to go lower, but the arches would have been sittin on the tyres and I would have needed arch work. So I decided to get some 215/35/18 tyres and stretch them on the 8.5x18 wheels and it did the trick. I was now able to lower the car even more, so now there is only 3 treads left on the coilovers and the car was ready for the ukpassats show.

Image
Image

That was a really good gtg and I had a lot of fun there, cheers Ant.

The next show was Leeds VW festival and before that I sprayed my engine covers in filler primer.

Image
Image

Then at Leeds VW festival I saw colins black mirrors and I had to do it to my car, so I got on the job straight away
Image
Image

And then it was big picture time:

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

This is the passat at the oxford edition show.

Image

Then for a couple of months nothing happened and then I gave it a good clean and went to no-rice with my friends.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

But then I decided to do something completely different and bought some new steelies and got them banded and stretched some 195/50/15’s over them
Image
Image
Image

So I sprayed them just in time for Gti spring festival and it looked like this with a fat dish

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

That was it for the widened steelies, I found something else which will be going on soon.
So I sold them to “robc”.

So for now the car is back on standard steelies and for the worse my friends decided to draw a big willy on the roof with masking tape.

Image
Image

That’s it for now.

Things I will do in the near future will be
To replace the rear bumper and drivers door
To got some HIDS
Put a new clutch in
And to source a new set of the rims

I have to say this is a great forum and I couldn’t have got the car looking like this without it.

Cheers Guys

yeah, its just that my house mate sold his car 2 days after I put the steelies on and so we had to go to uni in my car which means to get over 3 monster speed bumps every day which was slowly grinding the floor of the car away

SEB mate...what a fantastic write up. Your ssat has always been one of my favourites. From the moment I saw it at no rice that time i felt compelled to invite you to the ukp family. I knew theyd welcome you with open arms. You are probably the best example on here of someone who has an incredibly good looking car without spending much money at all. Your car is much better than these 40 grand trailer queen cars that keep turning up at shows these days. (You know the type...15 grand newish car with 25 grand spent on mods that look poo lol). We need more cars like yours mate

by the way how wide are your steelies and what is the ET. Im wondering if I can run 10" wide on the rear at 20"???

thanks pete! Im glad you told about ukp. and yeah this is a really good forum cause people actually give you good advise instead of just slaggin off you car.
and trailer queens, dont even get me started. most of them look nice and are finished to a high standard, but I cant see the owner havin any connection to the car as people that put lots of hours of hard work into the car. pete Im looking forward to see you car in the flesh!! hopefully see you at some of the shows also the steelies were 9,5 x15 and by my calculations they were ET9.

thanks for the nice words gareth, it was good speakin to you at UD.

Loved this on the black merc rims but when i 1st see it as GTI Fest, i was in love! Looks so good on the steelies, and the fact you had the guts to do something different to the norm!

Well deserved.

the banded steelies cost me 600 all in.
I got them banded at widewheels.co.uk for 300 and the welds were really good quality.
hope that helps

Must admit I did chuckle at the picture of the TOTALLY masked back end to spray the badge black..

But seriously mate, really nice motor mate.. I'm impressed.. 8)
