Volt meter/usb charger query

Having recently replaced the original gamma with a single DIN Sony unit I have fitted a storage tray that I would like to fit a voltmeter and usb charging socket in. When doing this in the past I've taken the live from the cigarette lighter, as it's so close to the stereo wiring would I be able to splice the switched live from the stereo for them? Without affecting the stereo?
