B5 rear speakers

Hi. I have a b5 wagon and have replaced the previous owners cheapo headunit with a jvc one out of my old 1.8t loon. My problem is this. . . . When in the loon the rear speakers worked fine. In the wagon they can only just be heard when the volume is turned right up.
I heard the rear speakers run off their own amp. Is this right, and where is it in the car?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
