Advice - Keep RCD 500 and add aux in or get new

Hello - advice needed here...
I am very happy with the sound output of the RCD 500 with its built-in cd changer
I would, though, like the ability to play audiobooks or music from an ipod or android phone
Therefore - I need to ask, is it easy to add an aux in adapter to the RCD 500? Can an absolute eejit and numpty (me) do it?
I looked in the overall manual and it mentioned a 3.5mm socket in the glovebox but I couldn't find that.
I have read on these forums that, if that is the way I go, pressing CD twice in succession will access the aux in facility
If it is very numpty-proof, is a replacement Double DIN unit preferable? I don't necessarily need the CD changer if I have aux in.
Have I made sense?
