RNS510 latest maps

Hi,
I have a 2008 Passat with RNS510 and 2008 software and I was wondering if its possible to update my maps to the latest version and what I need to do. I'm not sure what version I have as I don't know how to get into the firmware menu.
I've seen V10 for sale on ebay but I'm not sure if its complatible anddon't really want to shell out that kind of cash only to find out its not.
Does the latest version offer anything other than new route details and POI searching?
Also, I'm pretty certain that I don't have the premium BT module because when I press phone, it mutes the system so was wondering what I need to purchase. I have the older red display.
