Under seat subs

Post by bakili » Tue Nov 10, 2015 11:42 pm

Hey guys
I am after adding sub to my Pioneer headunit. I do want something compact and easy to install, underseat type amplified sub-woofer seems to be right product. I am thinking of Pioneer TS-WX120A. Anyone has used or installed this product? Will underseat sub make much difference or its just waste of money?

Thanks in advance.

I'm going to wire in one of the spare wheel sub's - made by pinoeer. They sit inside the back of the spare wheel - and provide plenty of volume!

How does that work , do you have to cut a circle in the boot floor cover ?

Neither a under seat box or spare wheel type is going to be as good as a box in the boot area with free air to move from a pounding sub .

I'd snap up this second hand one off package bargain up quick .

The one in the spare wheel well sits inside the back of the spare wheel - you don't need to cut the boot floor it sits under the floor and out of sight. So no security risk.

I was a professional stereo installer for over 3 years and had various systems in my cars for demo purposes - I can tell no difference from the spare wheel one in comparison to having a 10 or a 12 in a box in the boot.

That is where common sense departs in my opinion when people would rather carry a sub rather than a spare. :)

It's inside the spare wheel bud .

Not a popular solution though .

Thanks guys
I have genuine Audi spare wheel size sub but don't think it will be easy to fit.
The pioneer spare wheel subs is good but needs power from battery. Looking on wiring instruction for under seat subs, power can be taken from fuse box.

I have the Pioonner under seat one in mine.
Don't get wrong is not that good like a box in the boot but gives u enough bass to listen the music in better quality and it has a wired remote, so I can switch it off when mi missus drives with me. Stops Her complaining all the time its to loud

There you go not as good as a sub in a box :-bd

It's never going to be , the Pioneer has 2 × 10 cm subs .

Might be interesting to track down a spare wheel type, are the OEM ones powered normally via DC input or are they powered via the audio input line etc.

The pioneer 100W unit looks ok.

The one under the seat are tiny and have very little movement in the actual speaker to create the bass. The ones in the spare wheel actually have a decent sized speak and gives a decent punch.

I have the spare wheels one (mainly due to dog cage in the boot) and i find it more than enough. (maybe not enough to make the roof skin shake like my old setup in my Jetta) but its good enough - ive put a switch in the remote line and put it inside where the ashtray would normally sit so i can switch it off when i want (dog in her cage - kids/wife in the car etc)

Hello, I wanted to buy this same sub (Pioneer TS-WX120A) to put it underseat in my B6. Would you recommend it now that you've been using it for a while?

Thank you.

Saloon or estate ?

I don't understand this underseat business when there are custom fit mdf 10" subwoofer
enclosures that fit unobtrusively in the nearside area of the boot .

Subs and speakers are always best in a wooden box with a reasonable amount of internal volume.

Just find a way to fit some serious 8 inch speakers, or like my T5 hefty 6x9 all round, and fit them along with a good amp, much better bass both low and midrange which a sub cannot do. :)

Trust me, fit the right kit and no sub is needed.

No 6.5/6x9 can go as low as a proper sub in a decent box. You're lucky to get under 60-70hz with a midrange driver - even amped. And that's with a fully sealed and treated door. A sub will go down to 30hz and below in the right box.

Coming from someone with amplified front door speakers + a 12in 300W sub in the boot in a ~2 cubic ft sealed enclosure.

I also found one of these to do a great job of controlling sub output:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Ho ... SwEzxYUOaR

Simply plug it in inline between your head unit and amp. Set the gain on the amp with the knob turned up to max. You now have full control over your sub output from completely off to full volume. It's nice to be able to easily turn it down a little if you're listening to podcasts or something "talky". It's easy to pop it out of the box it came in and mount it behind one of the blanks next to the stereo as well - assuming you have one. No need to have the box hanging off your dash somewhere.

I must be lucky then lol. Im actually running six high quality triaxial 6x9 off 2 very good amps, properly and professionally wired in with a high spec android head unit.

Its as much about the quality of the components not just numbers. Mid range bass is just as important for music quality, all subs do is provide the thump lol, and the high sound pressure low frequency audio most capable of hearing damage :)

The last place I would want a sub is under my seat frankly.
