Firstly, my mum has said she will give me her netbook if its suitable for what I need but theres no optical drive, is this something that can be worked around for installation or does this write off the netbook? I will buy a cheap laptop from ebay if required.
Secondly, which vagcom/VCDS should I buy? I have seen a tonne of the cheap cables for £5 on ebay which I have read only work on older vehicles etc which in my case would be fine. There are also cables that go for around £40-70, would these be suitable?
Have seen some peolle get a bit defenskve regarding only buying the real deal but spending £300 on a diagnostics tool just for a bit of personal use is a bit excessive for my needs.
