top up oil warning wont go off

Hi All.
Been a member for ages just have not had time to come on here let alone fix my car.
Any way I have a oil leek might be the half moon seals not checked yet!
The top up oil message came up last week I topped it up but it wont go off now.
Is it a faulty senor or worse?
I drive a 1.8T Passat estate on a Y plate
