house speakers help

i was doing a favour for sum1 today and they were chucking out a set of speakers for a house so i just took them to see what they sounded like then a guy seen them and said he worked in a music shop and they would sell just now for around 300 so i was pretty chuffed lol anyhoo my problem is that the speakers have 4 wires coming out of it ( 2x left and 2 x right) i only have a sony midi hifi with just the thin red and black cable going in2 it for each speaker.

i have tried putting the cables from new one in but doesnt seem to work, oh and they do work thats not why he was chucking them out lol am not clued up on home audio so just wondered if anyone might no how to get them working.
