Gear stick movement

Just bought a 2014 reg Passat estate 2.0tdi manual and recently noticed when driving on the motorway at around 70mph the gear stick seems to move forward slightly when pressing on the accelerator and then back again when take foot off accelerator and applying the brake. The movement is about a cm. Is this normal for a manual Passat as I have never experienced this before on previous manual cars?
