B6 passat estate key wont unlock car

I have a 2007 b6 passat estate with the smart key it works to stat the car but wont lock it or unlock it the central locking system is working with the buttons on the drivers door i have been told its the receiver or the key lost its code and could cost a lot of money to dix any ideas chaps
