Replacement aerial... What's good?

Think I have broken my aerial, tried to remove it by twisting, but as has happened before I think the threaded part is corroded and the whole lot is turning.
So will need to replace the whole unit, but don't want the long type, are the stubby ones any good, and I've read that the shorter Polo ones are a straight replacement... Anyone fitted one?
