How long have you...

Post by ct.p » Thu Jan 11, 2018 3:56 pm

...kept a car?

I was thinking earlier that I've kept the current B5.5 longer than any other car I've owned and currently it is the oldest car I've ever had as a daily driver.

I used to get itchy feet and change every year or two but I've had this one since 2011 nd will be seven years come July. (Previous B5.5 only from 2007-2009 as an example of itchy foot syndrome).

It is itchy feet time again currently, or was for about half an hour. I cannot think of anything I'd want to replace the B5.5 with so might just keep it a bit longer.

I think the longest I've owned a car was 6 years, it was a v6 calibra Se9. My 924 is catching up though now I bought it on the 1st of October 2012 so 5 years and 3 months.
1984 924 2.0 n/a crystal Green - The daily
2005 VW Passat tdi 130 Highline Shadow blue -The wifes
2000 Peugeot 406 2.0 hdi - stood for 4 years, fresh mot and mostly working.

Early Mondeo, kept it for about five years and then multiple failures during an MOT (parts alone worked out three times the value of the car) sent it to the motorway in the sky.
RIP.

Had my B5.5 since April last year. Longest I have kept a car is about 4 years. That was a 2002 Focus. 11 cars in 18 years of driving.

I've been calming down recently, used to change cars every 6 months. Had the current b5.5 for just over a year and defiantly no plans to change!

My current passat has been with me 7 years in June this year. Or is it 8, it’s been so long.

After selling my first passat which was also a 5.5 I bought about 3 cars within a year until I finally realised I should never have sold the passat.

Passat 6 years
Focus 3 months
Leon 3 months
Civic 10 months
Passat 7 years and on going

Longest I owned a car was 5 years a zafira for doing the family duties. Kids grew up and got rid straight away. Owned current Passat 10 months, done loads of work myself and just flew through its last mot a couple of weeks ago so see no reason why can't keep it a lot longer. I've never bought a brand new car or a car on finance and never will so will definitely keep this one for a while I thinks.

I had my B5.5 V6TDI for 8 years and my B7 for just 4. My current Amarok will be with me for a very long time.

I've had my Mk2 Golf GTI for just over 9 years so far.
2004 V6 TDI gone and replaced with a 2011 TDI Sport DSG which has gone too.

I had my B5.5 1.8t Passat for ten years and enjoyed every mile I drove it. Now I have an Audi A4 1.8tq, loving the quattro. I could go back to the Passat tomorrow but I would miss the quattro for getting out of busy junctions when it’s wet/greasy surface.
