Passats catching fire?

Post by TurboGerbil »

To me this seems too much of a coincidence for there not to be a flaw somewhere. I know four people who have had their B5.5 passats (all varied in age and millage)catch fire within the last 8months. All fitted with the 1.9tdi pd engines. All the fires seemed too similar as well, they all started from around the gearbox area around the bulkhead.

Three of these people were driving at the time and one was even stationary. All the cars were in good health and looked after.

Has anyone else experienced/heard anything like this or is it just a strange coincidence?

I'm not on here much. I've left the VAG scene for a BMW (after a bit of fun  ) but looking to buy an old B5/B5.5 passat again for a winter run around. I miss my B5.5 and it was great in the snow...made a brilliant plough :D

Deep dish isn't very good in the snow. Got major shaking above 40mph because it was so unbalanced.
