Is it cos I is 'stock'?

Post by jsa274 »

Good evening all, newbie here!

Thought I'd say hi first of all, my name is Jamie, I live in south Lanarkshire. I recently bought a '06 Passat B6 1.9 TDi and enjoying it so far. Engine is somewhat coarse, I can see the reliability benefit of a SOHC 8V engine compared to a DOHC 16V, but it's not the nicest sounding. Only a minor niggle though, as long as it's reliable and giving me average trip consumption of 53 mpg I'll continue enjoying it!

The witty title (ha) is something that I was pondering while I was stuck in traffic recently. Modification and non-stock parts are of course a good thing, it gives a car a uniqueness that no other one is likely to have. And it can improve performance and give better reliability/longevity. Specialist car forums like this tend to be good for sharing knowledge on modifying cars with non-standard parts, but what if you're content with the bog standard? Is it something that members are mocked for (not any forum in particular, just generally) because they just want the best out of what the car came with?

Pure curiosity, not fishing for an argument :-bd
