tax disc, a waste of paper ?

tax disc, a waste of paper ?
Ok so my daily needs taxing at the end of the month and the wife says make sure its done in time so as to get it before it runs out, that got me thinking its a complete waste of paper time money and ink (the paper disc I mean that's put int the window) due to registration reading software all agency's know if its taxed or not so what's its point now how much cash is wasted on these ?
