I had my car at the mechanics in september last year to replace the two outer CV boot rubbers. I was charged £110 for the job, which at the time i paid with reservations.
I had to do some work on the car this weekend and found a hand full of issues. Here goes:
1. Passenger side boot rubber NOT CHANGED.
2. Neither stop pins nor washers were replaced on the shaft (either side)
3. Not enough grease was applied to either side.
4. Drivers side CV Joint totally buggered (split when i removed it from shaft)
I confronted the mechanic on Monday and he went red in the face and said he didn't know and couldn't understand how that had happened.
After 5 minutes of me making him understand that i have a fairly good knowledge of the mechanics of cars, he finally backed down and agreed to pay for one of the new CV joints.
Got £80 in the end.
not bad for knowing your stuff eh? 8)
