OK, can I ask the hive mind something please...

My missus has a 2007 Polo. Currently having some weird intermittent heating issues.

I'll try and keep it brief. Done so far..

Original issue was overheating. So I replaced the thermostat housing (comes complete with temp sensor and thermostat)

Flushed system until water ran clear. Then the temp gauge on a run up motorway would float from 90 then go up to 110 then come back to 90 again.

So I replaced fan switch (thought old one may be faulty)

So now what is happening is there's no heat in car (when adjusting temp dial there is however a slight difference between hot and cold) the gauge sits at 90, top and bottom rad hose hot (so water pump must be ok) both pipes off thermostat housing hot. Coolant pipes that go through bulkhead only one is hot (is that correct?).

So is this telling me that the heater core needs flushing, or is it simply an airlock?

I did but another temp sensor (a Febi one) as I thought the one that came with the housing may be duff. But the gauge is sitting steady?

I appreciate this isn't Passat related, but thought it's worth an ask.

Cheers Guy
