Spare key cutting/coding

Post by BIG F@ TW@ » Thu Mar 01, 2018 9:52 am

I recently enquired at Timpsons about getting a spare key for my 5.5 and they wanted best part of 80 quid! This is for just the key part with transponder etc.

What other options do I have, I have a few sets of the button sections, so do only need the key and transponder coding etc. Never needed to have a spare cutting before so not sure of my options...

New blank blade and transponder Ebay.
Local key cutting shop as i think timpsons will say no well my local one does.
We have a cobbler type shop and he does them.
Vag Tacho or VCDS to code the transponder (i use Tacho).
The transponder is a one time only use you can't re-code a used one.

Did you get sorted with a key?

I use a guy on ebay who cuts from a photo!

Works perfect (needs immo coding of course)!

Your actually better to contact him via e-mail as he would need a picture via email opposed to ebay in order for him to zoom in
telecommann@hotmail.com
Used him a few times and is spot on! Decodes your key before he even gets a penny (will be HAA XXXX)
Called Jim Mann, tell him Wakefield Tom recommended you (not on commission mind)

Similarly I've used keysinthepost.com before with very good results, never had a problem with the keys they sent

I never got round to sorting out another key, however a recent scare where I thought I had lost my only key has prompted me to sort one out.

I have ordered a few transponder chips and have got a couple of fobs ready to go (minus the electronics which I will source once I get the correct code from my current fob)

Can I use VCDS lite to reprogramme, or am I better of buying VAG-TACHO?
