So I had my B8 remapped...

Post by Odyssey TSi » Mon Jul 09, 2018 6:36 am

It’s a 2.0 diesel 150, final results were 192bhp 332 ft-lb which I’m happy with, I’m not the type of person to launch or abuse my car I just wanted more grunt in 2nd 3rd and 4th when joining the motorway or overtaking on a country road.

I’ve had a couple of comments like “fingers crossed for your clutch” etc is this something to be concerned about?

Depends on the clutch arrangement , single or twin plate ?

I would assume the 240 bitdi is twin plate to handle 369 ftlb ? As these are the exact same figures as a stock B8 A4 3.0 tdi 240 which is definitely twin plate .

But a 150 ?

They did produce a 190bhp B8 as well as the 150.

It was producing 159bhp and 273ft-lb before the map was done so it’s not a massive increase in bhp but yeah I get what your saying, think I’d be happier if the torque was slightly less maybe around 300 but like I said I’d only floor it in higher gears with the clutch fully engaged.

It’s a well maintained car with 21k on it.

How you drive it will have a lot to do with longevity. The amount of right foot you use will limit the torque transfer through the clutch. Obviously full bore starts or labouring in high gears won't do much good, but you sound like you have a good amount of mechanical sympathy.

Let me know how you get on as I've got the same engine and have been looking at remapping, my cars are normally remapped the second I buy them but seem to have way laid on this one

Upto now it’s been great, I’m no boy racer I just wanted the drive to be more effortless instead of working the gears more, I’m averaging 47mpg around town, not been on a run as yet.

Just speaking to a guy with a 170bhp CC mapped to 212bhp and 370 torque he’s had it mapped for the last 3 years without issue.

Where did you get the car mapped?

Cheers, it's about a 2 hour drive for me but would be worth it if the results are good

One thing I will say and I don’t know if it’s because of the ridiculously hot weather is my DPF seems to be regenerating every couple of days, not sure if this is a coincidence or not, again, no change in driving style, just something I’ve noticed.

Mine has stayed the same regenerating about every couple of weeks although we are off to Windsor tomorrow so will see if 130 miles kicks a regen off

Your pre-remap figures don’t surprise me, my 150 replaced a 150bhp DS4 with 273lb/ft of torque and the Passat feels as-muscular, which surprised me. I’m not sure about a remap as I tow a 1300kg caravan, I think it’ll probably do the clutch in - I’ve no issue in principe as my A2 has a remap but not sure about towing!

I had my B7 Passat remapped last year. It's 140 2.0tdi engine is now remapped producing 192bhp and torque output up from 307Nm to 415Nm.
I've done around 12,000 miles since the remap, and i've had zero issues. Clutch still works fine, doesn't slip, and hasn't changed since.

People mention clutch issues for remaps, but these issues only become reality if you drive everywhere full throttle and gear change like you are in the Fast and the Furious :hyst

If you drive normally, you will have no issues. The occasional full throttle overtake is not going to kill your clutch. Neither is towing a big caravan

I tend to spend more time in the upper gears using more/ full throttle when towing though, accelerating away from a junction wouldn’t probably cause an issue (as you don’t spend long doing it, even towing) but definitely pushing torque through the clutch.

As I say, no issue with the principle having had my A2 done in summer 2007 and still going strong at 132k, just not for this car.

I had our 2.0 FSI T remapped and the only thing that was mentioned was to change down to 5th on the motorway, although it will easily pull in 6th, just take the strain off a bit by changing down.
