7 seater opinions

Post by seanchadwick2k3 » Thu Aug 10, 2017 10:49 pm

Hello ukpassats

My b5 is gradually falling to pieces and it think it may be nearing the time for her to go to the scrap man.

My girlfriend is pregnant and when the sprog is here we will quite often need atleast 6 seats. I want something reasonably economical.

So far my main options are the smax or a mitsubishi outlander. I dont really need a 4x4 so can leave in 2wd I just wouldnt mind giving a small jeep a go.

I dont like the vw touran its just too boring.

Dont have lots to spend (5-6000) just wondering if anyone else had any suggestions?

Dont want a zafira either thats a no go!

Thanks

My wife and I just got a brand new SEAT Alhambra this was through motability so we don't pay, however it is a decent car and much bigger than the touran and Zafira. The Alhambra is basically the same car as the VW Sharan and Ford Galaxy up to a couple of years ago, then Ford went their own way. They hold the price so you would be looking at an older car for your budget.

Ive been looking at the galaxy too but think its a bit big ill only need more than 5 seats for a short amount of time so dnt need the full size rear seats but thanks for the advice.

How is yours doing on fuel? What engine does it have?

Mine is a 2.0 TDI 184bhp version coupled with the DSG gearbox, it's a heavy lump and I average around 47mpg mixed driving.

Think the Skoda kodiaq is available as a 7 seat option and rather nice looking. VW have the tiguan which looks OK but not sure if you can get 7 seats.

Probably not going to find one in budget though. The galaxy is a solid car but I think they hold their value very well. I quite like the Zafira tourer which is very different in looks than the Zafira.

I really like that skoda! Are they fairly new?

My budget at the min is looking about 6000 Max
My choices appear to be pretty limited! Mazda 5 looks OK ish bit biring though. Tempted to just go for the mitsubishi but im a bit concernes about the mpg. Wonder how it would compare to the likes of a galaxy

Tbh on your budget theres not much better option than the Touran. Maybe the older spec ford S-Max?

Golf chassis, not too bad to drive, same as the B6/B7 though Im not sure about the rear suspension and the 2.0 TDI and transmission options will give you decent power and good mpg, which is going to matter on your budget too i think.

The older Sharan/Galaxy/Alhambra variants are better than many people think, and I think the last Sharans in that series got the better 2.0 16V diesel engines iirc.

You could think about an early VW T5 kombi / shuttle (forget Caravelle the prices are ridiculously high), even at 10+ years old they hold value so incredibly well you could just about make the buying price. The 1.9's sometimes have slightly better fuel economy but not much power, the 2.5 are a lot more fun to drive and driven carefully can sometimes make high 30's or just touch 40 mpg. The T5.1 with the 2.0 16V are better mpg but the prices would scare you.

Think the kodiaq is less than a year old. Hadn't seen your budget.

Sorry but I would never put kids or anyone in the back of a 7 seater. Get hit from behind and they are squashed. I would sooner buy a van!

Really now that is a terrible misinformed opinion, my 7 seater has a full boot when all seats are up why is it any different to a car, or a bus?

He means the types designed to squash 2 more kids into a car derived type. Theyre not all like that though.

Just get a T5 :)
