Nurburgring trip....few questions/car preparation !?!

Not sure how many from here has been to the Nurburgring, but im hoping to go away with my father and wondering initially how long has its taken to go ? Is it better by ferry or euro tunnel ? and most of all.....what preparations would you make to your car to have the best experience possible ?
