The "Quarterly Southern-area Meet" idea thread

Post by mycarsavw » Fri May 09, 2008 9:36 am

Southern Meet Take2 went very well, a lot more cars than last time - twice as many attendees/cars - and there was positive talk of making it a more regular meet.

We plan to use the same eating venue as before - The Moat at Wrotham - but we'll have to work on the meeting venue due to the rather nasty speedhumps not agreeing with the rather tasty lowered Passats.

I propose doing this quarterly (for those who struggle with such things, is every 3 months (12 months in a year, 4 quarters in a whole, 12/4 = 3)) so the next one could take place in August. Opening it up to VWAF seemed like a good idea, but of the 50k members, only two turned up. Such is the nature of forums. If no one minds I'd like to keep it open to them.

So what are your thoughts?

Sounds like a plan!! 8)

BUT how about moving it around each time, that way a few more people might be up for coming if that quarters one is closer to them!? IE. Dorking, Brighton, Eastbourne, Newhaven... It also means its not always the same people that have to travel a fair distance... ok ok eddie is an exception!! and its a change of scenery... Maybe one biggish meet smack bang in the middle of the South, as there are a fair few members in devon/cornwall and hampshire/berkshire...

sounds like a plan :)

to be honest, with the big car park round the back of the moat, im not sure if we really need a separate meeting place beforehand? Plus the moat is nearer to the motorways and easier to find than the country park.

Robs idea of moving it around is good too, just need people to find suitable locations (apologies for my mistake with the speedbumps lol)

Keeping it open to VWAF is a good idea too, no probs with that.

I think id we set a date early and stick to it then it might make it easier for people to decide to come?

count me in though, defo :)

Maybe pick for places/counties and move it from each one each quarter?

Quarter 1 February -
Quarter 2 May - Kent
Quarter 3 August -
Quarter 4 November -

Maybe the idea of a central one could involve a cruise up the the UKP show :)

Works for me...
How about doing a north south east west....
Assuming kent was east
North could be somewhere around milton keynes or santa pod...
South could be winchester or basingstoke
West could be Swindon or oxford

All the above shouldnt be more than 2 hours away for anybody...

Seems OK for the Kent chapter.

I'd favour a South Central location somewhere along the M4 corridor.

At a stretch the catchment could be from Berks / Bucks / Oxon / North Hamps / North West Surrey / Wilts and West London.

The trouble is drumming up the interest.

I could alwasy ask if we could use the carpark to meet up for a while or even if we could park up inside the raceway if it wasn't being used for an experience day or something? lthough we would obviously NOT be allowed on track for obvious reasons - not least of which is that I'd like to keep my job!

It took me bang on 2 hours to get from the Kent meeting back up to the track at Northampton.

That's what this thread is about, getting ideas out there :D

It's open to everyone, even if you're not in a Passat.

I'm up for meeting up with you, providing you survive that combination of bad drivers and insane road layouts ;)
