Oil interval concerns

I was watching the video attached about a mechanic stripping a worn engine (180,000 miles) that drinks oil. He claims it’s because the oil changes were every 10k and that the oil should be changed at least every 5k. His is a petrol engine and not a diesel engine whether that makes a difference ? It’s worrying. Is this hyperbole?

I have followed VW intervals at 10k over my 180,000 miles. Kind of worried now. However i have always used VW’s branded fully synthetic 0w 30w 507.00 oil and my car Doesn’t use a drop of oil. Thoughts?
