App connect

Hi,
I ordered a new phone and it won't work with app connect. I've got a p30 pro and when I plug it in I get error reading usb.
It sometimes loads and pings up android auto but it won't enter the setup. I've tried an s8 and my old p20 and it works fine.
I wonder if something needs updating or a setting changing.
Any ideas please
