Rounded tailpipe contemplation

Post by smilie121 »

So I decided to try out some rounded stainless steel exhaust tips as my GT has exposed exhaust tips one side. They measure 65mm by 75mm, with one cut at a different angle to follow the shape of the bumper - see pictures. The best ones that matched were £15 inc delivery and showed no reaction to a magnet so I do believe they are some grade of stainless steel. They are held on to the exhaust tip with a regular jubilee clip fed through 2 cut out's, so compression is towards the "roof" of the pipe - meaning there is a chance daylight could be seen if you look into the pipes at the right angle - say from a driver's seat in the car behind.

Lets have look:

Here they are "dry fit" - look has not won me over

So as you can see to fit correctly (and for aesthetics), I am going to have to cut off about 10cm off each pipe. Don't like the sound of that! Also its a modification to the exhaust system, so is that going to be an earache with a persnickety MOT tester?

I think if the car was black n polished they would just look good. As it stands I am leaning towards returning for a refund, mainly because of the necessity of cutting. What do you think?
