Satnav update advice

After advice around updating the satnav. I've an r-line which I'm certain is the discover Pro 2 unit. Tried updating using the software on be website and the car doesn't like it. Not to mention the update is 26gb and the nav card is 16gb from VW.
The update it pulls for the SD card is smaller but it won't put it on the card. VW just say take it in which is a pain.
Tried updating via online in the car and it won't connect to the server. Anyone done updates recently with success?
I've updated maps in the past successfully but I'm stumped this time...
