2017 sat nav and postcodes.

Hi,
Having just bought a 2017 Passat with built in Sat Nav, I am puzzled about trying to navigate to an address defined by postcode and house number. I am used to working with my Tom-Tom.
As far as I can see, I can define where I want to go to by entering town, street and house number - works fine. However, if I don't have the full address, say just house number, road and postcode, I can't find how to enter it.
I have worked out how to just navigate to a postcode 'area' which is many cases is ok but it doesn't work very well for countryfied areas where one postcode covers a wide area.
Am I missing the obvious or is it just not possible ?
