Low coolant warning.

I recently had a low coolant warning on my B8 after 9500 miles. The level in the header tank had dropped below the min level line so I topped up with 0.5 litres of the recommended G13 coolant. A check when in for its first oil service showed no obvious leaks.
Is this normal to need to top up? I had a B7 for 4 years and can't remember topping up once. Any advice would be appreciated.
