B8 CarPlay on iOS 10

I've just updated my iPhone 6S to iOS 10, and now CarPlay is extremely laggy for music playback - for the first approx 10 seconds of each track playing, both the steering-wheel next/previous track buttons and the on-screen ones, are unresponsive. Furthermore, the "time played/time remaining" numbers on the display remain unchanged - i.e. "Time played" remains at zero, and then suddenly jumps to reflect current actual time, about 10 seconds into playback At this point, the s/wheel buttons and on-screen "buttons" respond more instantaneously as before the phone update.

Anyone else experiencing this? i expect Apple will not respond or blame it on VW, VW will say it's an iOS update and thus not their immediate problem? Really frustrating, head-unit is realistically unusable for current music playback in its current state.
