Break discs replacement

Post by woolz » Wed Oct 09, 2019 12:39 pm

Hi chaps -
i have a B8 passaatt with 60k on the clock. i want to check myself if my disks are worn. any idea how to do this? the disks have a shield around them so its not easy to use a micrometer to measure thickness....

not sure how to measure discs, but my 2016 passat has 60k and just had new pads all round, didn't need discs.

obviously depends on your driving style if discs are in better or worse condition.

I always go with the depth of the lip around the outside of the disc. If it seems deep i change them. I recently bought front discs and pads from Euro Car Parts near me for less than £150 and had an indy fit them, all in for £200, a bargain in my mind and the brakes are great. Mine has 40,000 on the clock but lots of town driving.
