Buying advise / questions / opinions on B8 DSG 190Bhp

Post by smilie121 » Mon Jul 09, 2018 5:13 pm

Not been here for some time due to a few things I won't bore anyone with. But looking to get a newer passat and I seen one

It's a 2016 GT SCR DSG with a few optional extra's. It's done 60k in 2 years with full dealer history.

Whats the reliability on DSG on this model? I heard a few things to avoid DSG on B6 and B7 but never read up on it. I am reading now but not finding much.

I really wanted a manual but the guy has agreed a good price and its the colour I want, a GT and a few nice extra's. Its somehow £30 more a year to insure than a R line manual I am considering but its not the right colour for me. Only ball ache is its on the other end of the country to where I am.

Any comments good or bad?

*edit* So i havent found anything online to be of concern - having read synthetic switching to mineral and the DQ200 and DQ250 upgrade. But still any input? numbers

mine has 34500 miles and I have had from new, no problems with the DSG at all, had 3 DSG cars in total so far and never had a problem with the gear box ever, around 250k in total mileage between them.

I have the 190bhp and all is good!

I have the 190ps 6 speed DSG and have now covered 95k in 2 years.

I also tow a 1500kgs caravan 2-3k miles a year and the car and gearbox are doing well.

I did have the dealer change the gearbox oil early (50k miles) and again last week at Service time. Expensive but makes a huge difference to ship speed and quality.

My belief is that the oil in the wet DSG's need to be changed every 40k and reliability suffers if not done. Has the car you’re looking at had the DSG oil changed at 40k?

Thanks for the input guys, however I have bought the car before returning to the forum after researching online. I flew down to Somerset from sunny Loch Lomond and drove up after visiting my folks in Wales. It was all rush from posting this, speaking to him again and booking a flight.

The car is in A1 condition as advertised and drives like a dream. Loving the power and pickup.

Car has been been maintained by Bridgewater VW and its had all the justification of taking the previous owners cash, i mean maintaining the vehicle by way of tick boxes.

I will take some pictures and post at some point.
