Audi A4 b7 overboost

Post by Passat_ben » Wed Apr 12, 2017 12:53 pm

Posting on behalf of a friend, he has a 2005 Audi A4 2.0tdi BLB engine. He had the dreaded EGR and shudder valve fault which both parts have been replaced he now gets code p0244 turbo overboost

We have checked the car over and have found a small leak between the manifold and EGR, this is due to not have replacement seals at the time of fitting.

We now have the correct seals so they will be replaced accordingly.

Could this leak have caused the overboost? And if so why

Hope you guys can help

No, it can only cause underboost. I would like to think, that while EGR was bad, probably partly open, vanes in turbine was most of time in closed position, and got clogged with carbon buildup, so now they can't move freely enough and are causing overboost problem.

Okay thanks for the supply, is there a way to clean the vanes with turbo in situ or does it need to come out?

How successful would a clean be or is it more likely to need a full re-condition or replacement?

Also is there any other common causes that could be checked/tested for overboost ?

First of all you need to see is actuator arm moving and how much, if it is about 10 mm at least , then, probably there is no need to do something to turbine. Can be faulty MAP sensor as well. If that car has electric actuator, not vacuum operated, it should come up with position sensor fault as well, if vanes are sticking, not just overboost fault.

He's also had a new MAF sensor recently too.

No this is a failed oil pressure issue that can financially write the car off .
