Tyre sizing

Post by Adrian888 » Sat Jan 28, 2017 5:15 pm

I note the VW spec for winter tyres on my B7 Passat is 205 50 17 in lieu of 225 45 18 normal/summer set up. Is 205 too narrow for a 7J rim and would 225/235 width be better or too wide? I also suspect (although haven't yet checked) the rolling circumference and diameter is less which will affect gearing, speedo reading and mpg.
