VW EOS - any good?

I've got a 2.0 TDI Passat estate which I love. The Mrs has a Focus Estate which is also a nice car but the seats are too long for her short legs! I also have an MG TF 160.
So, I'm thinking of getting rid of the Focus and MG and getting an EOS. Any major things to look for (like the balancer shaft on the 2.0 TDi engine)?
What about engine size - the 1.4 puts out a big 160 BHP but does it need to be driven hard - I like a nice bit of torque.
