mk4 indicator flasher problem?

hi girlfriend has the mk4 tdi, indicator relay (hazard switch) has started going nuts when indicators have been used.. its just clicking away.. have changed the flasher unit (hazard switch) but it hasnt cured the problem..

what else could it be?, ive herd the flasher units going down are a common problem so changed it..
