my 97 golf TDi has a fairly major oil leak which appears to be coming from around the vacuum pump.
I have removed the vaccum pump and this seems to confirm it as the source of the leak.
on the shaft of the vacuum pump where it slots into the block there is a 3mm groove - which i would imagine there should be a rubber seal in to prevent oil creeping up.....however there is no seal in place, and the VW garage i spoke to say there never was one - looking on the net it doesnt seem to be a listed part either and no other vac pumps i can find pictures of have this 'groove' for the oil seal.
Should there be a seal there? if yes where can I get one?
If no.....Im going to put one in anyway....any reason i shouldnt?
